We welcome you to join us for the Hanseatic Days 20th – 21th July 2019 in Tartu.
Hanseatic Days move closer to the river
City-wide celebrations will be taking place in Tartu once again on 20 & 21 July 2019,
with visitors young and old alike able to enjoy the colourful market atmosphere and culture programme of the Hanseatic Days.
Do some shopping in the town centre, savour good food made from locally sourced ingredients, watch spontaneous (and some slightly less spontaneous) performances, be entertained in all sorts of ways and have a good time with friends of all ages.
It’s worth visiting with your whole family!
This summer the Hanseatic Days will be moving closer to the river. After all, it was the Emajõgi that determined the status of Tartu as a Hanseatic town all those centuries ago.
Music lovers will be able to listen to concerts on the main stage located on Vabaduse Avenue in the centre of the town. Of course, our youngest visitors will enjoy themselves in the entertaining Children’s Town, which this time will be on the south bank of the river, near the Atlantis building.
This time technical enthusiasts will enjoy a vintage vehicle parade ride, style contests and an exhibition. The latter will form the culmination of the international Hanseatic Retro Ride on 20 July on Vabaduse Avenue in Tartu.
There will also be a parade on the Emajõgi, as is only right for a river town – over 100 vessels of different kind will float down the river through summery Tartu. Before the parade you will be able to take a ride on the Emajõgi via ‘river trams’ known to every native of Tartu: the barge Jõmmu, the riverboat Pegasus, the M/L Alfa and the Viking ship Turm.
Naturally, the heart of the city will also be home to a fair, this time consisting of nearly 400 merchants. The merchants, from Estonia and its neighbouring countries, are sure to have those things you have long been looking for and will be offering delicious fare over two summer days on Town Hall Square, the south bank of the Emajõgi and on Küüni Street.
