Jaani Town is the medieval heart of the Hanseatic Days, lying in the immediate proximity of St. John's Church, St. Anthony's Court Yard and Toy Museum. The stages here will accommodate dances and music from the Hanseatic times as well as modern sounds. Among the terracotta sculptures in St. John’s Church, the exotic concerts of the Glasperlenspiel festival will ring in the evenings.
In Jaani Town, exploratory characters in costumes and visitors alike will walk accompanied by guides for a short overview of the history of Tartu, discovering some of the secrets of the Middle Ages.
In St. Anthony’s Courtyard, secrets of medieval taste experiences are explored and shared with visitors. You can take a peek into medieval ways of clothing in workshops instructed by various craftsmen or just by taking photos.
Strength and skill can be tried in medieval games and competitions. The technique and history of the art of swords as well the making of necessary instruments should be of interest to both children and adults.
Craftsmen and merchants from near and far have gathered to show their best wares and masterpieces.
