We welcome all visitors to the Harmonic Tartu Hanseatic Days on 16-18 July, 2010. This time, the Tartu Hanseatic Days focus on reviving the Medieval wedding traditions – a courageous knight from a country far away behind the seas and his chosen one, a loveable lady of the city, known for her good manners, will enter into a holy matrimony. There will be a wedding ceremony that introduces wedding traditions from centuries ago and where everyone can participate in as a guest.
But as the name – Harmonic Tartu Hanseatic Days – says, this year we will also honour music, wind band music in particular, that the audience can enjoy during the biggest summer festival in Tartu. This year, the Tartu Hanseatic Days are combined with the Tartu International Wind Music Festival Mürtsub pill (“Cheering Horn”) in order to offer the audience an even greater music experience.
The 6th International Wind Music Festival Mürtsub pill will start on 14 July at 6:30 pm with a big opening concert on Tartu Town Hall Square and ends together with the festive closing ceremony of the Tartu Hanseatic Days on 18 July at 3 pm.
In the framework of the Mürtsub pill festival, different orchestras from Czech Republic, Latvia, Finland, Sweden and of course, Estonia will gather in Tartu. During five days a big joint festival wind band, festival symphonic wind band, conducted by Vilis Kokamägi (Latvia), festival woodwind band and festival brass band, conducted by Colin Cranson (UK), will practice and perform in Tartu and also, the national marching snare drums summer school will gather there, taught by Tomy Törner (Sweden). Visit also "Mürtsub pill" home page for more information.
